Introduction to Silk-Screening Basics

This class is designed to give students an introduction to silk-screening basics.
Class will start with a brief history of the art form, an introduction to the equipment, different types of inks, screens and applications. Teacher will demo preparing a screen for transfer, transfer of image, printing and reclaiming screens.
Each student will have a chance to use the presses and print images. This class will not facilitate the printing of students own imagery- we will be practicing with R.P.S. images, producing R.P.S. fund-raising merchandise.
Students are encouraged to wear clothes that can get messy.

Note: Class is intended for folks who have signed up and completed the beginning class above.
Class Description: with charity - limited to 6 students
This class will assist students with transferring their own imagery on to a screen and printing it on to paper or fabric. Students will have access to emulsion, ink and equipment.
Materials List (Things you need to show up with):
1- Silkscreen. Screen should be of manageable size- roughly 11x17-this can be purchased at pearl art supply.
2- Image of your choice transfered onto a clear acetate transparence film. This can be done by taking image to copy shop and asking them to put on transparence, cost if about .25 cents. Remember opaque i.e.: dark; hold your transparence up to the light, you shouldn't be able to see through it.
High contrast images work the best- black and white.

Class Description: with Jen- limited to 6 students
Learn the screenprinting process from start to finish. We will cover design, transparencies, emulsification, burning images, printing, and drying. This process is guaranteed messy so please dress appropriately.
Cleanup is a very important part of utilizing this space so we will be devoting the last 30 minutes of class to blowing out screens and returning the shop to a state of readiness.
